Williams confirms Maldonado as second driver

Williams now has GP2 champion Pastor Maldonado confirmed as second driver for next season. The 25-year-old Venezuelan Nico Hülkenberg take the seat on which no new contract was awarded to Williams. Maldonado will run alongside Rubens Barrichello who had previously received a contract extension.

Maldonado has been a while linked with a seat at Williams. He tested two weeks ago for the team during the “Young Driver Test” in Abu Dhabi. Reportedly, the newcomer also sponsors a number of them. He is already in the clouds by announcing: “It’s a real honor for me that a team like Williams chose me. This is the perfect end to a fantastic year. I did all that mileage for the team and I can not wait to get everyone on the team and our work as well as possible next year to prepare. ”
“It is the first time in 30 years that a new Venezuelan F1 drive. So I will do my utmost to provide the best possible results in exchange for the support I got from my country. ”

Maldonado raced a total of four seasons and took the GP2 title this year after six victories Rapax. Frank Williams followed the progress of Maldonado since his debut victory in Monaco in 2007.
