The Revised Porsche 918 Spyder To Reach 100 km / h In 2.5 seconds

Porsche has been hard at work by intensely promoting the most powerful product of its history, the 918 Spyder supercars. The model from Zuffenhausen managed to exceed the previous record on the famous Nurburgring circuit measuring 20.6 kilometers (12.8 miles), with the 14 seconds, covering the famous “Green Hell” in six minutes and 57 seconds. The hybrid supercar of the German brand has surpassed another German model, Gumpert Apollo, becoming the fastest car in the world. This record was already formally approved.

From the beginning, the representatives of Porsche said they would get an extremely fast model which wil set new boundaries in terms of performance. The Porsche 918 Spyder can reach a maximum speed of 340 km / h, and achieve average fuel consumption in the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) of 3.0 liters per 100 km.

The model is a full-fledged hybrid, being able to travel up to 30 kilometers in a regime with zero emissions. In the test, the German copy responsible for establishing the record has been fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, already approved as the only equipment available for the 918 Spyder.

Wolfgang Hatz, member of the Porsche AG Board of Management in charge of Research and Development, said that “We promised a great deal with the 918 Spyder, namely to redefine performance, efficiency and driving pleasure. We have kept our word.”

Before the first deliveries, Porsche considered there is still room for improvement, and improved car performance. So they did it, and the model received new figures when it comes to acceleration timing.

According to the official press release issued by Porsche, the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h is done in just 2.5 seconds, with 0.2 seconds faster than in the case of the previous version. Also, the Porsche engineers were able to achieve significant improvement in the case of going from 0 to 200 km / h, which is now done in just 7.2 seconds, 0.5 seconds faster. Even the acceleration from 0 to 300 km / h, is made with 2.1 seconds faster, more precisely in 19.9 seconds.

“The radical hybridization of the 918 Spyder from the very outset is what made this record possible,” stated Dr. Frank Walliser, chief of the 918 Spyder project. “The Nordschleife is and remains the toughest measure of a super sports car. Posting a time of 6:57 minutes, we have achieved a result of which the development team and everybody at Porsche can be rightly proud.”

For those who pay more attention to the eco side of the car, Porsche guarantees a better sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in electric mode too. This is done in 6.2 seconds, 0.7 seconds faster than before. If new customers choose the Weissach package offered in the list of options, the time drops to only 6.1 seconds.

The people from Porsche say they already have orders for two-thirds of the planned production, the interest of the customer increasing from day to day. In those circumstances, the exclusivity of the model is assured. Thus 918 Spyder can become a jewel which will complement the collections of wealthy hobbyists and die-hard fans.
