Six years of launch, the story of the glorious BMW i8 is (almost) finished!
We saw the conceptual Vision EfficientDynamics harbinger in 2009, but we actually had to wait until 2012 for the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid production model. Four years later the homeless i8 Roadster (including exclusive hat set !) Was added. At the end of 2019, the counter stood at 20,000 copies sold, but it looks as though not too many more will be added. The production will be stopped in April 2020.
With the i3 and i8, BMW had a nice lead in the field of electrification, but lost it on the road. Now the German premium constructor from Munich is fully committed to plug-in hybrid models . Only at the end of 2020 can we charge a purely electric iX3 , followed by the i4 and iNEXT models in the coming years.
BMW M would work on an electric and sporting flagship with Vision M Next Concept influences.
Whoever wants to order a new i8 Coupé or i8 Roadster must therefore quickly go to the BMW dealer or turn to the second-hand market. The i8s did initially with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder and electric engine good for 362 hp / 570 Nm, with the facelift in 2018 that was increased to 374 hp!
The purely electric BMW i3 would be viable until at least 2022!Add To Compare
