Since 1983, Quattro GmbH created high-performance sports cars and designs, as well as high-tech car prototypes. Now, the company owned by Audi has changed its name to Audi Sport GmbH and is structured on four areas.
Along with the development and manufacture of Audi R8 and Audi RS, the company is responsible in terms of customer motorsports, namely Audi Sport customer racing. Other areas of activity include car customization options, based on Audi’s exclusive range, plus lifestyle accessories, which are part of Audi Sport collection.
The Audi Sport name is inspired by the long tradition of success in motorsports. Since the 30s, the legendary Silver Arrow models from Auto Union have been the landmark which defined standards on race tracks around the world. In the 80s, the Audi Quattro permanent four-wheel drive achieved resounding success in rallying. Currently, the brand with the four rings participate in the DTM, Formula E, GT racing, and TCR category. Young talents in piloting rally cars are promoted within the Audi Sport TT Cup. The series production models benefit from the concepts and technologies initially used in motorsport. The Audi R8 and Audi RS models represent the sporting flagships of the brand, combining superlative performance with exclusivity and prestige.
The RS abbreviation means the most powerful version of the engine in a certain range of Audi models, it means dynamic performance, sophistication and usefulness in everyday practice, plus quattro permanent all-wheel drive. The RS brand tradition began in 1994 with the introduction of the Audi RS 2 Avant.
This car has been a futuristic model – a real high performance sports car with five seats and a large trunk. Since then, Quattro GmbH has continuously expanded its portfolio of RS models, which now start from the compact Audi RS 3 Sportback and extends to upper models, such as the Audi RS 6 Avant and Audi RS 7 Sportback. The company’s main objective is to create the most prestigious models from the AUDI AG range.
The Audi R8 is the model at the top of the product range. The first generation appeared on the market in 2007, based on an innovative concept: central engine, systematic lightweight construction with the Audi Space Frame technology and quattro traction.
Audi’s subsidiary has doubled sales in the past five years. In the next 18 months, Audi Sport GmbH will launch eight new models, which will further strengthen the company’s position in the market. The number of specialized Audi Sport distributors will increase by the end of 2017 from the current total of 370 to 600.
