VW launched the Tiguan in 2007 – then a compact SUV – and now the counter stands at more than 6 million copies sold. Even in 2019, the second-generation Tiguan (from 2016) went over the proverbial counter nearly a million times. In order not to mortgage the success too much, the German car manufacturer plays safe with the facelift.
So the Tiguan was equipped with a fresh (re) design with modified grille / bumpers, higher bonnet, wider (of course LED) headlights (optional dynamic IQ.LIGHT LED-Matrix), new exhaust nozzles adorn the rear and the type designation shifts to just below the VW logo.
With 615 liters to 1,655 liters of luggage space and five seats, the renewed Tiguan offers the necessary ease of use, who needs even more space can go to the Tiguan Allspace with up to seven seats and space for 760 liters to 1,920 liters of luggage!
In the interior we see the necessary modern novelties such as digital touchpads (swiping!) As a favorite control for the air conditioning (and optionally heated seats, rear window, steering wheel heating, …). Indeed, just like with the new Golf ! The new MIB3 infotainment system is also introduced here with handy functionality (integrated SIM card (= data connection), wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, connected services, DAB, …). Optionally you get a new steering wheel with touchpads and a 480W audio system from specialist Harman Kardon.
Unfortunately, Volkswagen (currently) does not go into detail about the engine range of the upgraded, but they speak of a wide range of TSI petrol engines (1.5 TSI and 2.0 TSI?) And TDI diesels (2.0 TDI?). Front-wheel drive and a manual transmission are standard, if desired you can opt for a DSG automatic transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
What they do communicate with great enthusiasm is the launch of the long-awaited Tiguan eHybrid plug-in hybrid (1.4 TSI + electric motor, 245 hp) and the long-awaited Tiguan R (2.0 TSI, 320 hp, 4MOTION).
In addition to new looks, a more modern interior, enhanced connectivity and high-performance engines, the existing safety / driver assistance for the Volkswagen Tiguan is also growing. Think of the Travel Assist (adaptive cruise control + Lane Keep Assist , this up to 210 km / h!), Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control and the aforementioned dynamic / super bright IQ.LIGHT light units.
Volkswagen builds the Tiguan in four different factories (in four different time zones), no time to waste!
In the fall you can order the refreshed Tiguan at an as yet undefined starting price where you can choose between the basic version, Life, Elegance and R-Line trim levels. Prices will follow later!
