The big surprise, however, is not the model release, but the fact that the new Focus ST will implicitly get a diesel version. This fact represents the first motorization of this type ever developed under the hot hatch ST banner of Ford models. Also, a diesel ST would be the fourth performance model on the diesel compact segment after the Golf GTD, Octavia RS diesel and Opel Astra 2.0 CDTI twin-turbo.
Even if we do not have too many changes on the outside, inside we can see someone achieved a significant improvement in quality. The folks at Ford said the new ST will benefit from technology and quality improvement, revealed earlier this year for the Focus ST facelift so new owners can expect better quality materials and trim.
Although there is no official information at this time, the engine under the hood of the diesel ST version should be a stronger version of the current 2.0 CDTi, which develops 163 horsepower. Experts are expecting a power rating that will be close to 190 hp, capable of 0 to 100 km / h (0 to 62mph) in 8 seconds and emissions of just 114 g/ km of CO2.
Regarding the petrol version of the Focus ST, which will have a power rating of 250 hp obtained from a 2.0 turbo engine, it will eventually make room for the long-awaited version of the Focus RS, scheduled for 2015.
Among the elements that highlight the new Focus ST, unveiled in a video teaser and a photo-detail, we will see a rear view camera as standard equipment, or some technological packages such as Lane Departure warning and blind spot monitoring.
Also at Goodwood 2014, Ford presents the new Mustang for the first time in Great Britain. The sporty model, with a 5.0-liter V8 engine will take part in the Supercar class with the specialist in vehicle dynamics from Ford Team RS, David Put, at the steering wheel. Also, the Ford Mustang Convertible can be admired by enthusiasts attending the event.
Ford also joined hands with Sony Computer Entertainment to stage the first “virtual vs. Real” race at Goodwood. On the daily first run, the new Ford Focus will compete in real time with the Focus ST available in the Gran Turismo 6 game for the PlayStation 3 platform.
A gamer is selected from the Ford stand and he will compete with Ben Collins (The Stig on Top Gear) with the race available for viewing on big screens located in the area. Ford stand visitors will also be able to challenge themselves on the Gran Turismo 6 simulator.
First launched in 2002, Ford sold more than 140,000 Focus ST models in over 40 countries.
