The CX-5 debuted in 2012 and became a very important success for Mazda, generating approximately 25 percent of the Japanese brand’s annual sales. More specifically, up to now1.4 million units CX-5 have been sold in 120 markets. The emotional design and driving pleasure typical for Mazda imposed the CX-5 model in the compact SUV segment.
The aesthetic language KODO – Soul movement that makes the current CX-5 so attractive is also evident in the case of the new model, but in a more progressive interpretation. The decoupage and contour of the chrome front grille is more prominent, and headlights have a more elongated form which inspires, like the rest of the details, more dynamism. Mazda also completed the color range with a new shade of red called Soul Red Crystal.
Like the front grille, the air vents of the air conditioning system from the dashboard are more prominent, and the fact that are made of metal offers a role of ornaments with sporty tone. Moreover, Mazda has refined more details to ensure an ambiance and a more enjoyable driving experience.
For example, the center console between the front seats was lifted up so that the shift lever is above 60 mm, in case of automatic transmission, and 40 mm for manual transmission, which improves maneuvering. And the useful side was perfected too. The rear seat backrests have a folding mechanism in two stages. Also, the trunk is generous, providing a volume of 505 liters (including the space under the boot floor).
The board instrumentation includes a 4.6-inch color display, head-up display system which shows the information provided by the navigation system, and on the top of the dashboard is a multifunction screen measuring 7 inches.
The engine range will include a SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel and two gasoline engines with direct injection SKYACTIV-G 2.0 and SKYACTIV-G 2.5. The thrusters can be coupled with a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic 6-speed one.
The all-wheel drive system, i-AWD ACTIV, is complemented with G-Vectoring Control system (GVC). Mazda explains that the GVC adjusts torque to the steering system’s actions, controls lateral and longitudinal acceleration forces, and optimizes vertical forces acting on each wheel individually. Also, the torsional rigidity increased by 15.5 percent over the previous model, the steering system with rack and pinion is electrical assisted, and a redesigned suspension contributes to better road holding and comfort.
Mazda made a special effort for a more effective soundproofing of the cabin. Compared with the previous model, the new generation CX-5 allows a conversation between passengers 10 percent clearer at speeds of 100 km / h. When running on uneven ground, the cabin noise is 1.3 dB lower.
The safety level is high too, thanks to the driving assistance systems. These system includes traffic sign recognition, which shows information onto the head-up display, and the cruise control which may track the car before even starting it.
