It has a similar design to the Saab 9-3 introduced for the first time more than 15 years ago with little updates. The model, which has been named NEVS 9-3 EV, has been fitted with LED daytime running lights incorporated into the optical units, taken without changes from the Saab 9-3, and in the front bumper.
Visually, the interior has remained unchanged, but the model has received a digital dashboard and can optionally be equipped with a touch screen multimedia system on the center console. With a smartphone app, the owner will be able to operate some of the car’s systems, such as the central lock and the air conditioning system.
The manufacturer did not provide much detail about the technicalities of the car. NEVS 9-3 EV is powered by a 177 hp electric motor powered by a 46.2 kWh battery. With a weight of about 2.2 tons the car would be able to travel up to 300 km in one charge.
Currently the plant in Tianjin began production under test conditions. Serial production will begin in the spring of 2018 and the start of sales is planned for June in China. The company will produce up to 50,000 NEVS 9-3 EV units per year, for later volume up to 220,000 copies, and the company will launch 2 new electric models annually.
The prices for the NEVS 9-3 EV, as well if the car will appear in other markets have not been announced.
