Future SUV Of Volkswagen Initially Named Teramont Was Renamed To Atlas! For American Market!

Germans from VW named their future SUV as “Teramont” but changed their minds about the name in order to be easier for Americans to pronounce it.
According to a US request for the registration of trade name, the Germans from Volkswagen baptized their future 7 seats SUV, Atlas, to be more easily pronounced by Americans.

Germans from Volkswagen have been preparing a new SUV for a while, to fit between the Tiguan and Touareg and to compete against Nissan X-Trail, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Peugeot 5008 and the new Skoda Kodiaq.

It was caught several times while being tested, mainly in China, and at that time, some voices argued that it will be called Teramont, knowing the habit of Germans to name their SUVs with words that begin with the letter T.

But according to the latest information, the German manufacturer reconsidered the choice, and although it was meant to be a secret, following an application for registration of the trade name, it was decided that the name of the new 7 seats SUV to be Atlas.

The explanation for this move comes from the head of VW Group USA, Hinrich Woebcken, who stated some time ago that “the new model will have a name easier to pronounce by Americans. Two or three years ago would have been impossible for a region to decide the name of a model. The fact that we managed this is a sign that the office in Wolfsburg is a little more flexible. ”

Volkswagen Atlas will be officially presented at the end of this month in California and will enter the market in early 2017. It is built on the MQB platform and the design is inspired by the CrossBlue concept presented by the German car manufacturer in 2013 at the Auto Show in Detroit.
