Team Principal Ross Brawn believes that the W04 brings a significant change to the way Formula One vehicles are designed and developed. Performance modification has also been made as the team’s performance in the 2012 season was not astonishing. After gaining a quick win in the Chinese Grand Prix, the team struggled for the major part of the championship.
Sauber revealed its Formula One vehicle after Ferrari, Force India and Lotus. Tagged the C32, the vehicle was unveiled by drivers Esteban Gutierrez and Nico Hulkenberg. The vehicle features significant exterior changes along with a slimmer side pod and downward sloping nose. The rear end is also narrower than its 2012 counterpart due to the repositioning of the radiator.
The weight has been reduced and this gives the C32 a poised approach to speed. Insiders claimed that Sauber has managed to achieve more than it had vouched for. The C32 sports most of its drive train mechanicals from Ferrari such as the KERS and transmission system. Sauber had managed to accumulate 126 points in 2012 and based on the current form of the drivers and the new car, they hope to score better this season.
Marussia has unveiled the 2013 MR02 at Jerez and the vehicle is expected to head to the track for testing this week. However, the team still has a single driver and is on the lookout for their second driver. After Timo Glock had to go for financial reasons, Max Chilton is the only driver Marussia has.
However, rumors say that rookie Luiz Razia has been signed on to be the replacement. Marussia has high hopes pinned onto the MR02 and post 2011 as this is their major designing breakthrough. Marussia however finished 10th in the 2012 season and are looking to better their score this year.
Caterham has also showcased the CT03 Formula One car for 2013 at Jerez. Former Marussia driver Charles Pic and Caterham’s permanent driver Giedo van der Garde have unveiled the car. Caterham finished 10th in the 2012 season and hope to beat Marussia this time round too. However this could be problematic as Caterham has lost its experienced drivers Vitaly Petrov and Heikki Kovalainen.
The CT03 is basically a face lifted version of their 2012 car and there has been no mechanical changes whatsoever. The teams will stay in Jerez till the 18th and will move on to Barcelona on the 19th of February for the championship to start. Torro Rosso was the last constructor to reveal their car this week and the STR8 was showcased at Jerez. The vehicle features a Ferrari built engine while the team wants to better their sixth position this season.
