Detroit 2018 – The “Native” Acura RDX Prototype

Acura boasted that the new RDX is 100% made in the United States and is based on a new platform that will be used only on the company’s cars. The third generation of the RDX has a larger gauge and has a wheelbase that’s 63.5 mm longer than its predecessor. Other chassis details have not been announced.

Under the hood will be a four-cylinder engine and a displacement of 2.0 liter DOHC VTEC Turbo. The gearbox will be a 10-speed automatic. Detailed specifications for the propulsion unit and dynamic features have not been made public yet, but Western press speculates that it might be an engine installed on the new Honda Accord but producing more power.

The new Acura RDX will also be available on the market with a modernized SH-AWD all-wheel drive system with a traction vector control feature and a new rear differential, capable of handling 150 percent more torque.
Other features include the adaptive suspension with four operating modes (Sport, Sport +, Comfort and Snow), panoramic roof (the largest in the segment), electrically adjustable seats in 16 positions.

We also have an Android-based multimedia system on a 10.2-inch full HD screen, head-up display, touchpad for multimedia handling, Acura ELS Studio 3D audio system with 710 watts and 16 channels, complete protection package and assistance systems.

The Acura RDX has recorded five consecutive years of record sales and seven consecutive years of annual sales growth. Being one of the brand’s bestseller, only in 2017 51,295 copies were sold.
