Byton Electric to Show Its First Electric SUV in January 2018

Byton Electric is a young German-Chinese enterprise, set up by several former BMW engineers together with Chinese investors. The company has its headquarters and manufacturing plant in the Chinese city of Nanjing and several offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Munich and California.

The first model of the company, which is an electric crossover called Byton SIV (Smart Intuitive Vehicle), will be launched soon. In addition to electric propulsion, the revolutionary SUV will benefit from a Level 3 automatic pilot system that will later be upgraded to levels 4 and 5 (the latter being a fully automatic pilot system that does not require driver involvement while driving).

To begin with, the SUV will be offered in two versions, 60 kWh and 90 kWh. In the basic equipment, Byton SIV can travel up to 350 km, while in the second version the range is extended up to 500 km with a single charge. The crossover has a fast charging system and, powered by a special station for 10 minutes, receives a surplus range of 120 km.

The Byton SIV measures 4,800 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm, which brings it into the class of SUVs such as Nissan Murano and Volkswagen Touareg.

The official Byton SIV debut will take place on January 7, 2018 at the CES Las Vegas exhibition. The production of the electric SUV will begin by the end of 2019 at the Nanjing plant, and its estimated price is about 45,000 dollars. To begin with, Byton SIV will be available exclusively on the Chinese market, and then it will be exported to the US and Europe.
