Judging by the body size, the number of doors or the four-wheel drive, Audi RS 3 sedan would have the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG 4MATIC as its closest rival.
But it has characteristics able to attract even those who dream of driving a BMW M2. Of course, the Bavarian coupe has only two doors and rear-wheel drive, but it is seen as a reference vehicle for the sporty compact class.
Audi RS 3 Sedan benefits from the most powerful five-cylinder engine produced so far in the series. The 2.0 TFSI propeller comes together with an S tronic dual-clutch 7-speed automatic gearbox and reaches 400 hp and torque of 480 Nm available from 1,700 rpm.
Instead, the BMW M2 has a 3-liter engine of six-cylinders, 370 hp and 465 Nm of torque from 1400 rpm (increases to 500 Nm with overboost). Mercedes AMG CLA 45 4MATIC has a four-cylinder engine with 381 hp and 475 Nm, which enables a start from 0-100 km / h in 4.2 seconds. In other words, it stands between BMW M2 and RS 3 Sedan in terms of dry figures.
Audi RS 3 sedan is the fastest, at least on paper. It reaches 100 km in 4.1 seconds, unlike the BMW M2 which needs 4.3 seconds in the case of the 7-speed M DTC and Drivelogic transmission variant and 4.5 seconds with manual transmission.
However, note that these values are achieved by M2 without having a full wheel drive as the RS 3 Sedan. The Bavarian model has other tricks than the full wheel drive, namely the active M differential and Launch Control function.
Both M2 and RS 3 sedan are electronically limited to a top speed of 250 km / h, but in both cases clients can opt for packages that increase the limit. Thus, M2 can reach 270 km / h and RS 3 sedan can reach 280 km / h.
In terms of driving pleasure, the sporty RS 3 sedan wants to compete against M2 using a stability control system (ESC) which enables the driver to disengage or activate a mode designed for controlled drifting.
But M2 also has a Dynamic Stability Control system which is provided with the M Dynamic mode, which allows a moderate wheel slip, allowing the driver to consider himself a drifting master.
In terms of turning and braking, the BMW M2 has composite brake discs, vented and perforated, with 380 mm diameter on the front axle and 370 mm on the rear axle.
The front discs have four fixed piston calipers while the rear ones have two fixed calipers. RS sedan has three 370 mm discs on the front axle, eight-piston calipers and 310 mm on the rear axle. Audi offers disc brakes with carbon fiber composition and ceramic for the front wheels.
In reality, you only need to select the formula that inspires you the most out of the figures declared by the manufacturer and the pictures taken to amaze the world.
