2020 – Pure electric Fiat 500

The new Fiat 500 was launched in 2007 and – even after twelve years in production – can still show good sales figures. The iconic city car undoubtedly owes this to its strong image, frivolous design and many special versions. The 500 was kept fresh with some (limited) updates, now there is a brand new – and especially pure electric – model. As long as there is a demand for the petrol versions (in the 500 Hybrid form), Fiat will continue to build them!

The new Fiat 500 (which we call 500e for the sake of convenience) may look largely the same as today’s 500, the newcomer is 6 centimeters longer / wider and the wheelbase grows by 2 cm. This will of course benefit the interior (and the positioning of the battery pack). If you look closely, you will see that the 500e has a closed grille and that an accent line runs through the light blocks. Electric powertrain or not, no lack of customization options! The New 500 makes its debut in the convertible version, probably shortly afterwards the hatchback version!

Inside, the new dashboard with a 10.25 ”infotainment system immediately catches the eye. As the first model in the large FCA family, this UConnect 5 system that runs on Android Automotive is included, but Apple CarPlay can of course still be used. With the Telematic Box Module you get extra functionality (Find My Car, battery charge, WiFi hotspot, …) through your own application.

The new Fiat 500 counts on a 118 hp (87 kW) strong electric motor with which you can get to 100 km / h in 9 seconds, at 150 km / h you reach the top speed. A 42 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a driving range of 320 km (WLTP). Charging can be done quite quickly with an 85 kW (fast) charger that allows you to reach 80% in 35 minutes, charging 5 minutes ensures a 50-kilometer drive! The Easy Wallbox (2.3 kW or 7.4 kW) speeds up charging with a classic 230V socket, which takes about 7 hours.

Because pure electric cars make no (or too little) noise, the European Union has mandated a warning system up to 20 km / h, Fiat solves this in an Italian way by integrating a classic tune (Amarcord – Nino Rota for the connoisseurs). Dolce Vita! There are also three driving programs available: Normal , Range (maximum driving range) and Sherpa (economy mode, keep as much battery capacity as possible).

With a brand-new basic structure, Fiat can greatly upgrade the existing driver assistance and safety systems. For example, it can drive partly autonomously (level 2) thanks to Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control and there are Lane Centering , Urban Blind Spot, Intelligent Speed Assist, Attention Assist and a 360 ° camera available.

The Fiat New 500 “La Prima” is an exclusive and limited (1/500) introductory model that is available in three colors ( Mineral Gray, Ocean Green and Celestial Blue ) and benefits from extensive basic equipment (including Easy Wallbox!). You can reserve a copy from 500 euros, count on a total price of 37,900 euros. After the launch version is a classic base model with an accessible (there) price tag, the necessary commercial success would be an asking price below the 29,000 euro limit may lie.
